Today we’ll take a look at statues on display at l’Abbaye de Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe. I’m not religious – or knowledgeable on Christian figures – but I enjoyed each these figures. Each is featured in its own alcove, surrounded by painted brick effect, and lit by light coming in through beautiful stained glass windows.
Do you recognise any of the people represented? If so, let me know in the comment section below.
I’ll be back tomorrow for one last walk-through of the chapel before we head to our next destination.
Bonne journée!
Marla
Beautiful. Those stained glass windows are the perfect backdrop for the exquisite statues. How many alcoves does this building have? And no I don’t recognize anyone, I hope you’ll clue me in.

I’m so sorry. I really don’t recall.

The statue in the first photo should be Peter, one of the apostles. The inscription reads: Tu es Petrus (You are Peter), and super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam meam… (and on this rock you will build my church). Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing.

I do admire the skill it must take to create a statue but the stained glass is breathtaking.
