Yesterday we looked at my first set of mural photos from Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe, and today we’ll continue.
This mural depicts The Battle of the Kings. Initially located on the arch of the Abbey’s nave, in 1979 it was painstakingly taken down piece by piece to be preserved. The horizontal white space reflects the crack that had developed over the years in the nave.
Here’s a better look at the Saints I mentioned in yesterday’s post.
Not even small niches are spared the artists’ brushes.
This is starting to look a bit like an old episode of Trading Spaces.
One last mural before we move onto other parts of the church. Someone help me out .. would this be a Saint? My deduction skills are telling me that it is from the circle around the figure’s head.
So that’s a wrap .. until tomorrow.
Bonne journée!
Marla
