Dining options in Barkerville are limited, but James and I enjoyed our lunch of simple home-style comfort food at Wake Up Jake.
What’s in a name?
Fun fact: Wake Up Jake was named after Jake Franklin, one of the owners who reportedly fell asleep regularly at a table in the restaurant. As someone who naps through their lunch hour almost every day at work, I feel like Mr. Franklin and I are kindred spirits.
While the building isn’t an original (it’s a 1960s structure; the first reconstruction after Barkerville became an historic site in 1958) its decor immediately takes you back to the 1870s.
I ordered the grilled cheese and salad..
While my boyfriend, not surprisingly, opted for the spaghetti..
After lunch we headed back outside to check out more of the old town.
Bonne journée!

I love places that have a story, like see you later winery. Legend has it, about 3 months after arriving in the Okanagan valley- the ranch owner arrived home to a note from his wife. She informed she was leaving, and signed her note See You Later. Decades past, but she never returned.
