Vancouver is home to a new public piece of art work, this time in the form of a massive chandelier hanging under Granville Street Bridge.
By massive, I mean it!
It’s 26 feet tall and 14 feet wide. It weighs a staggering 7500 pounds, and is adorned with 600 faux crystals made of polyurethane.
If the reports are to be believed, the cost of this shiny new accessory is .. drum roll, please .. 4.8 million dollars. Thankfully it was privately funded.
It’s called Spinning Chandelier because twice per day the impressive piece slowly lowers, spins for a minute or two and then rises back up into the position we see here.
Public reaction has been, not surprisingly, mixed. I think it’s pretty neat looking through.
What do you think of it? Comment below!
Bonne journée!

It looks great, but is it in a safe part of town? I can see it being a target for vandals, unfortunately.

It’s quite high up but I suspect it’s only a matter of time before someone tries to do something to it.

I think it is pretty, and am glad it was privately funded. But really if someone has 5 million they don’t need I can think of better, as in more beneficial uses. Clothes for the homeless, soup kitchen in gastown, help students with student loans.
More than 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day, sleep on the ground, have terrible water, no access to medication and open sewers.
I think art is nice, but could have spent less and done more good in Canada or Internationally. Just my opinion, I hope it’s ok I shared that.
