Maison Aurouze

I took part in a couple of walking tours with Localers when I was last in France. The first focused on the dark side of Paris’ history. Our guide, Patrick, had a great sense of humour and after the tour concluded he led us to a rather grotesque sight before bidding us adieu.

Yep, those are dead (taxidermy) rats.

They’re displayed in the window of Maison Aurouze, a family run pest control company that has been in operation for 4 generations since 1872.

If I’m understanding the note below, these rats were captured at Les Halles, Paris’ old fresh food market, in 1925.

I’ve seen some pretty strange things during my travels, and this will definitely stand out in my mind for years to come.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve come across while traveling?

Bonne journée!
