A few photos from a leisurely walk I enjoyed at Maplewood Flats with my boyfriend.
While the conservation area is known for its varied wildlife, we only saw 3 birds during our visit. We could hear many more, but they were obviously feeling a little shy. Or perhaps it was the cat we saw (on a leash!) that kept them hidden?
It was a gorgeous day and we’re surprised by how few people we came across. It’s almost like an hidden gem in a city of busy outdoor spaces.
The area was home in the 1940’s to a community of squatters living in dilapidated cabins along the intertidal zone. While the cabins are long gone, an installation by artist Ken Lum depicts scaled replicas of the old cabins.
Bonne journée!
